Your car is your office. Picking the right vehicle is not just an aesthetic choice - it is a decision that drives fuel costs, service, insurance and, crucially, which category Uber puts you in (UberX, Comfort, Black). Requirements in 2026 are precise. Here are the full criteria.
Basic requirements - UberX
UberX is the baseline - the most popular category. Requirements:
- 2015 or newer model year
- minimum 4 doors
- working air conditioning
- 5 seats (driver + 4 passengers)
- valid technical inspection
- good body condition (no damage affecting appearance)
- clean interior, working seatbelts
Almost every compact car meets these: Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, VW Passat, Hyundai i30, Kia Ceed, Ford Focus. Fuel consumption 6-8 l/100 km. Purchase price 30-60 thousand PLN (used 5-8 years old).
UberX Comfort - higher segment
UberX Comfort is a premium category between XL and Black. Trip rates 15-25% higher than UberX. Additional requirements:
- 2019 or newer model year
- minimum segment D (mid-class)
- leather or soft upholstery
- more legroom
Examples: Toyota Camry, Skoda Superb, VW Passat, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class. Cost - 70-150 thousand PLN (used 3-5 years old). Fuel: 7-9 l/100 km. With higher trip rates it works out comparable to or better than UberX.
Uber Black - premium
UberBlack is the luxury category - but in Poland it is a niche. Available only in Warsaw and Kraków. Requirements:
- 2021 or newer model year (Warsaw - 2022+)
- black, silver or navy colour
- segment E or premium
- leather upholstery, dual-zone climate
Examples: BMW 5, Mercedes E, Audi A6, Tesla Model S. Purchase: 150-300 thousand PLN. Trip rates 2x-2.5x higher than UberX, but traffic much lower - 6-10 trips daily versus 15-20. For those who already own such a car and want to use it. For starters - too big an investment.
UberXL - for families
Missed this category? Uber also offers XL - for 6+ passengers. Requires a car with minimum 6 seats (usually minivans or large SUVs). Rates 30-40% higher than UberX, but niche demand - mainly weekends and tourist trips. Popular models: Toyota Proace Verso, VW Sharan, Renault Espace, Kia Carnival.
Best "start-ready" car
If you are buying a car specifically for Uber, with a 40-50 thousand PLN budget, the best choice is a 3rd-gen Skoda Octavia (2014-2020) with a 1.6 TDI or 1.5 TSI engine. Why:
- meets all UberX requirements
- big boot (airport)
- low consumption (5.5-6.5 l/100 km)
- cheap parts and service
- good resale after a year or two
Car from our fleet
If you do not own a car, you can rent one from the Departner fleet - ready with taxi stamp, vehicle extract, insurance and a pre-set Uber account. Cars are 2020+, usually Toyota Corolla or Camry. Monthly rental is 1,800-3,000 PLN depending on model and rental length. Ask about rental.
Fuel - diesel, petrol or hybrid?
At 200-250 km daily hybrid is unbeatable: Toyota Corolla Hybrid burns 4-5 l/100 km in town, half of a diesel. A hybrid investment pays back in 12-18 months at heavy use. Diesel is cheaper to buy but more expensive to service (DPF, EGR). Standard petrol - cheapest to buy, most expensive to run.
