Three large ride-hailing platforms operate in Poland: Uber, Bolt and FreeNow. Each has its upsides - and each fits a slightly different driver profile. Instead of marketing talk - concrete numbers and comparison in five key areas.
Commission - what the platform takes
The lowest commission is theoretically Bolt - around 15-20% in selected cities, 25% on average. Uber - 25% steady. FreeNow - 20-25% depending on trip mode. In practice the differences are smaller because each platform has service fees and different base rates per kilometre.
Formal requirements
This is where differences are biggest. Uber requires a taxi stamp in the vehicle registration and a vehicle extract from the fleet licence - but insurance can be standard civil liability. Bolt does not require the taxi stamp but needs taxi OC, which is pricier than standard OC. FreeNow originally served classic taxis, so the full taxi set is required from day one. Activation speed
Bolt has traditionally been the fastest - account active in 6-24 hours from document upload. Uber - 24-48 hours. FreeNow - usually 2-5 working days due to extra central verification. If express start matters most, Bolt wins, but the difference is only a day or two.
Trip volume - how many rides the platform gives
In Warsaw and Kraków, Uber and Bolt are roughly equal, with Uber slightly ahead on Saturdays (tourists, airport) and Bolt slightly ahead on weekdays. FreeNow has a smaller market share but steady business clientele. Best strategy: run two apps at the same time - covered in How to drive with Uber and Bolt at the same time.
Earnings - what is in hand at the end of the week
For the same driver, car and hours - weekly payout differences between Uber and Bolt do not exceed 5-10%. Data from our network (180 drivers) shows that in Warsaw Uber is on average 3% more profitable than Bolt monthly, but in Kraków Bolt wins by 2%. Full breakdown: How much does an Uber driver earn.
Payouts - when and how
Bolt: weekly, transfer by end of next week, Bolt Wallet option available (payout within 24h). Uber: weekly, plus Instant Pay (immediate payout after trip). FreeNow: weekly, no instant option. Cashflow-wise, Uber and Bolt are comparable.
What to pick at the start
If you have your own car and want to start fast - we recommend registering on both Uber and Bolt. Departner handles both processes, and the taxi stamp, once done, is only used under Uber (Bolt does not need it but does not block you). An active driver in a big city pulls 9,000-11,000 PLN monthly from two platforms.
