Can a foreigner drive with Uber in Poland without opening a business?

Updated 19 October 2026. This guide concerns passenger trips in Poland. The answer depends on your personal documents, the operator you choose and the city in which you plan to drive.

Short answer: Uber describes a fleet partner route for people who do not have their own business. A partner may help with the vehicle and operating process. Joining a fleet does not give you a right to work in Poland or remove the driver's individual requirements. Check those separately before choosing a start date.

What does "without a business" mean?

You do not necessarily need to register your own Polish company to explore driving through a fleet partner. The partner and driver must still agree on the actual working and settlement arrangement. Ask for the proposed agreement in writing, who operates under the taxi licence, what you receive after deductions, when payments are made and who handles the vehicle. Do not assume that all partners use the same contract or tax treatment.

If you already run a business, compare both routes using the real agreement and your own costs. The Polish guide to driving through a partner without your own business explains that general decision; this article concentrates on additional questions a foreign candidate in Poland should resolve.

First check your right to stay and work

Your nationality, residence status and the proposed type of work can affect what permission is required. A visa, residence card or permit should not be treated as a universal answer without checking its conditions. A fleet partner cannot grant immigration or work permission simply by accepting your application. Use the Polish government's work permit guidance and exceptions guidance, then confirm your own case with the relevant authority or a qualified adviser. Ask the partner which documents it needs to review before you sign.

Then check the driver and taxi documents

Uber's current Poland process lists a Polish category B driving licence and other driver checks. If you hold a foreign licence, verify the official exchange procedure for your situation before assuming you can start using it. The taxi process also involves documents connected with the operator and vehicle. The exact checklist and verification stage should be confirmed for your city and account through Uber's licence guidance.

Keep these checks separate: permission to work, permission to drive, and permission for the car to operate as a taxi answer different questions. Our document responsibility checklist helps you record who verifies and submits each item.

Do you need to own a car?

No car is a separate decision from no business. Uber describes partner and vehicle options, but availability and terms vary. Ask whether the specific vehicle is eligible for the Uber product in your city, whose taxi documentation covers it, what insurance applies, who pays running costs and how the rental ends. Read the written terms before planning income or a first shift. See our guide to driving without owning a car.

Five questions to bring to a partner

  1. Can you review my right-to-work and driving documents for the proposed arrangement before we agree a start date?
  2. Who is the licensed operator, and which taxi and vehicle documents must be ready?
  3. What agreement will I sign, and how will deductions, taxes and payments be explained?
  4. If I need a car, what are its full written rental, insurance, damage and return terms?
  5. Which documents should go to the official Uber account or a secure partner channel rather than a general contact form?

Have your city, licence type, work status and car situation ready when you make contact. The general form is for basic contact details, not passport scans or medical records. If any essential requirement is unresolved, ask for the next verification step rather than a promised activation date.
