These are two documents that, after Uber switched to the new formula in 2024, became mandatory - and drivers most often misunderstand them. Taxi stamp and vehicle extract from the fleet partner licence - what they are, how they differ and how to get them.
What is the taxi stamp
The taxi stamp is an annotation in the vehicle registration certificate stating that the car is approved for passenger transport as part of taxi activity. Formally it is a "TAXI" note made by the transport department in the vehicle registration. Required by Uber (since 2024), by FreeNow (always) but not by Bolt (taxi OC is enough there). A key difference.
Where and how to get the taxi stamp
You get the stamp at the transport department of the city where the vehicle is registered. You submit the application, show the vehicle registration and ID card. A valid technical inspection is required - and the car must have it in the extended category, that is, one covering passenger transport. After verification, the office stamps the annotation in the registration.
Costs and time
Stamp duty - about 50-100 PLN. If the car requires an extended technical inspection, add 150-250 PLN at the inspection station. Total: 150-350 PLN. Turnaround: 1-3 working days in most cities. In Warsaw sometimes a week because of department load.
What is the vehicle extract
The extract is a document derived from the taxi licence. The licence applies to a person (driver or entrepreneur), the extract applies to a specific car. One entrepreneur (like Departner) with one licence can have hundreds of extracts - one per car driven by cooperating drivers. The extract is carried in the car alongside the registration.
How to get the extract
The extract is issued by the fleet partner based on their own taxi licence. If you cooperate with Departner, we do it for you - after you show the taxi stamp in the registration. We issue the extract within 24-48 hours of receiving a complete document set. More on our procedure in the full guide.
The Uber - Bolt difference
Bolt does not require the stamp or extract - a licence and taxi OC are enough. Uber requires both but accepts standard OC. In practice: if you plan to drive with both platforms, get the full set (licence + stamp + extract + taxi OC). This stack gives access to every platform in Poland. What if I sell the car
The taxi stamp goes with the vehicle (it is an annotation in the registration). The vehicle extract is invalidated and a new one is issued for the new car. Practically: changing the car means 2-3 days of paperwork during which you are offline. Best planned outside weekends when earnings peak.
Invalidation
The taxi stamp is valid as long as the registration and inspection are valid. The extract is valid as long as the partner's licence is valid - and has its own validity period (usually matching the licence). If you end cooperation with the partner, the extract is invalidated and must be returned.
